Clackamas County is taking significant steps to address homelessness with the introduction of a new transitional housing program, set to provide comprehensive support for individuals in need. During a recent policy session on May 15, 2024, county officials discussed the finalization of a contract with All Good Northwest, the selected provider for this initiative, which aims to create a supportive community environment for those experiencing homelessness.
The program will feature on-site staff available 24/7, including behavioral health specialists and case managers, to assist participants in navigating their housing journey. Unlike traditional shelters, this transitional community will allow individuals to stay for an extended period—up to two years—while they work towards securing permanent housing. The goal is to provide a stable environment where residents can address barriers to housing, such as mental health and addiction issues, with the support of dedicated professionals.
Commissioner West emphasized the importance of maintaining good relationships with local businesses surrounding the new facility, acknowledging concerns about safety and security. He highlighted the need for a secure fence to protect both the businesses and the residents of the transitional housing. The county is committed to fostering trust and collaboration with these businesses as the project progresses.
The program is designed to prioritize individuals who are currently unsheltered, with a focus on those most vulnerable. Officials aim to facilitate housing placements within a month and a half for participants, while also providing the necessary support to ensure long-term success in their housing transitions.
As Clackamas County moves forward with this initiative, it reflects a broader commitment to developing a comprehensive system of care that addresses various housing needs, including specialized support for behavioral health and addiction recovery. The upcoming contract review is expected to take place in June or July, marking a crucial step in the county's efforts to combat homelessness and improve community well-being.
