Keller City Council has approved a significant upgrade to the South Elm Street area, which will enhance both pedestrian and vehicular access while improving local aesthetics. During the Elm Street Pre-Construction Public Information Meeting held on March 12, 2025, city officials outlined plans for a new parking lot and a pedestrian-friendly bridge, set to transform the area into a vibrant community space.
The project includes the construction of a parking lot on Pecan Street, utilizing a portion of the Keller Church of Christ parking lot. This new facility will provide additional parking stalls, although specific details regarding the number of stalls and final design are still pending approval. The city aims to ensure that the new parking area complements the existing infrastructure, maintaining a consistent look with decorative concrete similar to that used on Bay Street.

The bridge will include a shade awning and decorative lighting, enhancing safety and visibility while creating an inviting atmosphere. Plans also include a planter bed to separate pedestrian pathways from vehicle traffic, ensuring a pleasant experience for visitors.
In addition to the bridge, the city will install wayfinding signs throughout South Elm Street, featuring QR codes that link to maps and information about local businesses. Approximately 15 of these signs will be strategically placed to assist visitors in navigating the area.
The construction will be managed by Fane, the same contractor responsible for the successful Bay Street project. City representatives, including Rick and the engineering team from Kimley Horn, will be actively involved throughout the construction process, ensuring that community concerns are addressed promptly. A site trailer will be established for public inquiries, providing residents with a direct line of communication during the project.
As Keller prepares for these enhancements, the city council emphasizes the importance of community involvement and transparency. The improvements to South Elm Street are expected to foster a more connected and vibrant environment, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.
