Officer Gomez highlights San Antonio's rising crime concerns at problem venue

The San Antonio Building Standards Board reconvened on March 13, 2025, to address significant safety concerns regarding a local venue known for frequent disturbances and illegal activities. Officer Gomez reported that the venue has been the subject of over 34 calls in the past two years, with 17 of those related to safety issues. The types of incidents reported include 25 disturbances due to loud music, four incidents involving firearms, and multiple fights. Notably, there were two reports of shootings in progress and 16 instances of shots fired in the vicinity.

The officer highlighted a particularly troubling incident from June 1, 2024, when a female was shot in the foot, and another incident in February where two suspects were shot during a failed robbery that escalated into a murder. These events underscore the venue's reputation for violence and disorder, prompting the Safe Unit to seek further action to address the ongoing issues.

The board's discussions reflect a growing concern for public safety and the need for stricter regulations to manage such problematic establishments. The meeting concluded without any official actions taken, but the board's acknowledgment of the situation indicates potential future measures to mitigate the risks associated with the venue.
