Daly City honors community leaders and organizations at annual awards ceremony

The Daly City City Council held a special meeting on December 16, 2024, to celebrate the reorganization of the council and recognize outstanding contributions to the community. The meeting featured the presentation of the Mayor's Awards, which honored individuals and organizations for their significant impact in Daly City throughout the year.

City Clerk Jeanette thanked voters and her office staff for their support as she begins another four-year term. Vice Mayor Manalo highlighted the city's accomplishments in 2024, including multiple awards for financial reporting, the approval of affordable housing projects, and the establishment of new community events aimed at promoting local identity and supporting small businesses.

The meeting recognized Supervisor David Canepa as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year for his dedication to improving the quality of life in Daly City, securing nearly $60 million in funding for various community initiatives. The Outstanding Artist of the Year award went to DJ Shortcut, who was celebrated for his resilience and contributions to the local music scene.

Several local businesses were honored, including Lugs as the Outstanding Small Business of the Year and Ling Nam Restaurant as the Outstanding Medium Business of the Year. The Saramonte Center received the Outstanding Large Business of the Year award for its role as a community hub.

The meeting also recognized outstanding volunteers, including Nancy Rodriguez and Cheryl Qatar, for their commitment to community engagement and advocacy. The Daly City History Guild was awarded Outstanding Organization of the Year for its efforts in preserving the city's heritage.

In a heartfelt moment, Mayor Manalo presented awards to her family, recognizing their support in her role as mayor.
