City Council schedules legacy business celebration for May 8 during Small Business Week

The Daly City Small Business Commission convened on December 12, 2024, to discuss various topics pertinent to local businesses, including industry insights and legacy business nominations. The meeting began with a discussion on the challenges and lessons learned from other cities, particularly San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, which have been noted for their effective handling of small business issues. Concerns were raised regarding the federal legality of certain industries, with participants expressing apprehension about potential crackdowns under the new administration.

Following this, the commission moved on to the agenda item concerning legacy business nominations. An email was circulated prior to the meeting, providing a link to the nomination form and a list of potential legacy businesses—those that have been operating for over ten years. The commission aims to celebrate more than three businesses during the upcoming legacy celebration scheduled for May 8, 2025, coinciding with National Small Business Week.

Commissioners were encouraged to submit additional nominations, with three businesses already nominated: The Bridal Basket, The Dollar Store, and a local donut shop. The commission expressed a desire to recognize a broader array of legacy businesses during the celebration, emphasizing the importance of honoring long-standing contributors to the community.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for further nominations and a reminder of the upcoming celebration, highlighting the commission's commitment to supporting and recognizing the contributions of local businesses in Daly City.
