Figueroa said the junction plan already allowed EV infrastructure and that the proposed code changes make the C-1 and mixed-use zones consistent with state requirements.

Commissioners debated whether to encourage or allow EV infrastructure in residential zones as well. Several commissioners said many residents who own EVs will charge at home and therefore limiting the requirement to commercial and mixed-use zones was sufficient; others suggested the city could consider incentives or work with property owners if demand grows. “It's not a requirement just to allow the uses,” Figueroa said, explaining the draft language would permit EV infrastructure but would not mandate city-funded installations.
