House memorial service honors 24 former representatives with Governor Armstrong in attendance

The North Dakota State Legislature held a memorial service on March 13, 2025, to honor the memory of 24 former representatives. The session began with a motion to resolve into a memorial service, which was unanimously approved by the members present.

Governor Kelly Armstrong and Secretary of State Michael Hall were among the special guests in attendance. The memorial committee, led by Chair Representative Kerry McLeod, included Vice Chairs Representative Macy Balinski and Representative Sue Ann Olsen, along with several other committee members.

During the service, Representative McLeod welcomed the families and friends of the deceased representatives, noting that 13 families, comprising 87 members, were present to pay their respects. The attendees were escorted to reserved seats in the chamber by Representatives Bernie Statstrom and Laurie Beth Hager, as a moment of silence was requested during their seating.

This solemn occasion served as a tribute to the contributions of the former legislators, reflecting the legislature's commitment to honoring its past members and their legacies.
