Houston County students are making headlines with impressive achievements in various competitions, as highlighted during the recent HCBOE Board Meeting on March 13, 2025. The meeting celebrated the accomplishments of students from multiple schools, showcasing their talents in DECA, music, and athletics.
Northside High School students Mikey and James Osborne were recognized for their outstanding performance in the DECA state competition, where Mikey secured first place in retail merchandising and will advance to the national competition in Orlando, Florida. Darshan Patel also excelled, taking first place in the buying and merchandising testing event.

Subscribe for Free Veterans High School also shone at the DECA competition, with Cadence Scott and Hayden Hardigree winning first place in the team decision-making event, earning them a spot at the national level.
The meeting further honored the exceptional musicians selected for the All State Band from various high schools in the district. Houston County High School's band director, Jay Davis, praised his students for their remarkable achievements, including winning two grand championships and being selected for prestigious performances. Students from Perry High School and Veterans High School were also recognized for their selection to the All State Band, highlighting the competitive nature of this honor.
In athletics, Mikayla Williams from Houston County High School made history by becoming the first female wrestler in the county to win a state championship. Her remarkable season included a record of 57 wins and just one loss, culminating in a victory over her only defeat in the state finals.
