The positive reception has prompted school officials to consider expanding the program to all six schools in the district.
Plans for the upcoming school year include training two black Labrador puppies, Roxy and Zoe, to become certified therapy dogs. Superintendent Holcomb has committed to covering all associated costs, ensuring that the program remains budget-neutral for the district. The initiative aims to foster connections between the schools and the community, with therapy dogs visiting various school events and supporting students in need.
As the program develops, school leaders are optimistic about the potential benefits of therapy dogs in creating a supportive and nurturing educational atmosphere. The next steps involve finalizing training for the new therapy dogs and establishing a schedule for their visits to all schools, reinforcing the district's commitment to enhancing student mental health and well-being.
