Santa Rita Elementary honors local artist Becca Bull and announces student art project

Santa Rita Elementary School celebrated a vibrant addition to its community with the unveiling of a stunning original artwork titled "Sparkle and Shine," created by local artist Becca Bull. During the Santa Rita Union School District Board Meeting on March 12, 2025, Donna Koenig led the recognition of Bull, who graciously donated the mixed media piece to the school in December.

The 30 by 30-inch artwork has quickly become a source of inspiration for students, who express excitement and joy when viewing it. Koenig emphasized the significance of the piece, stating it embodies the resilience of the school and community, and serves as a reminder for students to "sparkle and shine" throughout the school year.

In addition to the artwork, Bull announced plans to engage with fifth-grade students in an upcoming in-house field trip on May 22, where she and her boyfriend, artist Kurz, will guide students in creating their own canvas art. This initiative aims to foster creativity and provide students with a firsthand experience of being an artist.

Board members expressed their gratitude for Bull's contribution, highlighting the importance of art in education and its role in nurturing students' emotional well-being. One board member remarked on the need for a "revolution" in arts education, advocating for a renewed focus on the arts in schools.

As the meeting transitioned to other agenda items, the positive impact of Bull's artwork and her commitment to the students remained a focal point, reinforcing the value of community partnerships in enriching educational experiences.
