Georgetown ISD enhances communication platform with 2 way texting for all staff

In a recent Georgetown Independent School District (GISD) Board Workshop held on January 7, 2025, significant advancements in the district's communication platform were highlighted, showcasing a transformative shift in how information is shared between schools and families. The new system, launched in August 2024, has replaced the previous messaging platform, enhancing connectivity and engagement across the district.

One of the most notable features of the new platform is its two-way messaging capability. Unlike the former system, which only allowed for one-way communication, the new platform enables parents and staff to respond to messages. This change addresses a growing demand from parents for more interactive communication, as studies indicate that text messages are more likely to elicit responses than emails or phone calls. The system ensures privacy by protecting personal contact information, allowing for secure exchanges between teachers, nurses, and parents regarding important matters such as attendance and medication needs.

The flexibility of the new platform is another key improvement. Users can choose how they receive information—via text, email, or app notifications—tailoring their experience to their preferences. Currently, 96% of users opt for text messages, while 84% prefer emails, and 35% utilize app notifications. This multi-channel approach reflects a significant increase in user engagement compared to the previous system.

The workshop also reported an impressive 100% contactability rate, meaning every parent and staff member in the district is receiving communications. This is a marked improvement from the previous platform, which had a contactability rate of 93%. Additionally, the open rate for messages has soared to around 90%, compared to just 65% previously. This high engagement level is particularly noteworthy when compared to industry benchmarks, where average email open rates hover around 25%.

Overall, the enhancements to GISD's communication platform represent a significant step forward in fostering better relationships between schools and families. The district's commitment to keeping parents informed about their children's education and school activities is evident, and the positive reception of the new system suggests a promising future for community engagement.
