City Council approves Aspen Ridge subdivision plans and major infrastructure projects

Brandon City Council has taken significant steps to enhance community safety and infrastructure during its recent meeting on January 21, 2025. One of the key decisions made was the proposal to remove outdated speed zone requirements near Pioneer Park, where the current speed limit of 50 miles per hour will be adjusted to 25 miles per hour when children are present. The council plans to prepare an ordinance for this change, aiming to improve safety for families and children in the area.

In addition to safety measures, the council reported a robust year in building permits, with a total of 74,000 residential and commercial permits issued, reflecting a total investment of over $74 million. This surge in construction is expected to contribute to the city’s population growth, with estimates suggesting a population of approximately 11,700, bolstered by new apartment complexes currently under development.

The council also approved a subdivision construction agreement for Western Hills LLC, allowing for the development of new infrastructure on the west side of the river. This project is anticipated to enhance housing availability and community amenities.

Furthermore, the council addressed the need for a new vehicle for the city inspector, approving the purchase to ensure continued effective inspections and oversight.

On the water and sewer front, the council finalized a change order for a sewage drainage repair project, which included minor adjustments and landscaping enhancements. They also discussed the ongoing water treatment plant project, which is expected to be operational by mid-March, marking a significant milestone for local water management.
