Brunswick County approves real estate agreement for Project White House hotel development

The Brunswick County Board of Supervisors held its regular monthly meeting on February 19, 2025, where significant discussions centered around a real estate purchase agreement for the White House development hotel project.

During the meeting, the county attorney presented a new agreement for the sale of approximately 28.84 acres of county property, located near the intersection of US Highway 58 and Cattail Drive. This property is intended for the development of a hotel, and the agreement follows previous negotiations that had been terminated. The board was informed that the closing of the sale is anticipated by June 2025, contingent upon meeting specific requirements outlined in the agreement.

The board members engaged in discussions regarding the terms of the agreement, which included a two-year timeline for the hotel’s development, with the possibility of a two-year extension. After deliberation, the board voted unanimously to approve the resolution authorizing the sale, allowing the county administrator to finalize the contract.

In addition to the real estate discussions, the board approved a recommendation to rename the tourism coordinator position to tourism marketing and social media manager, reflecting an expansion of responsibilities.

The meeting concluded with announcements, including the appointment of Dr. Seward as vice chair for the 2025 Vaco General Governing Steering Committee and a light-hearted celebration of the county administrator's birthday.
