Rockdale Schools report strong finances and celebrate educational achievements at board meeting

During the recent Board of Education work session held on March 13, 2025, significant discussions centered around financial updates, educational achievements, and community engagement initiatives, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Rockdale County School System to enhance student success and community involvement.

The meeting commenced with a detailed presentation of the preliminary financial reports for February. The district reported revenues of $10.7 million for the month, slightly down from $11 million the previous year. Year-to-date revenues reached $175 million, representing 80.2% of the budget, an increase from 79.2% the previous year. Expenditures for February totaled $17.5 million, with a year-to-date total of $143.9 million, which is 64.8% of the budget, down from 68% last year. The current fund balance stands at $59.7 million, an increase from $55.3 million at the same time last year, indicating a stable financial position for the district.

In addition to financial matters, the meeting celebrated various educational milestones. March was recognized as Youth Art Month, with a proclamation issued by the city mayor and the launch of the Cherry Blossom Student Photography Art Show. The board also acknowledged Speech Language Pathology Week, emphasizing the critical role of speech-language pathologists in fostering literacy skills among students.

A highlight of the meeting was the announcement that all three traditional high schools in the district were named AP Honor Schools, with some receiving the expanded school honor.
