El Campo ISD has made a significant decision regarding the future of its athletic facilities, selecting Hellas as the contractor for new field turf. During a recent meeting, the school district's committee reviewed bids from four companies, ultimately recommending Hellas for its exceptional service and high-quality product.
Coach Reid highlighted that Hellas has been a reliable partner, having installed the current field and promptly addressing any issues that arose. Although Hellas was not the lowest bidder, the committee felt confident in their choice due to the company's reputation and the quality of their turf system.
The new turf will feature a state-of-the-art e-layer pad, which comes with a 25-year warranty, promising durability and safety for student athletes. This pad is designed to support three turf replacements over its lifespan, as turf typically needs replacing every 8 to 10 years. The turf system, known as Matrix Helix, includes innovative cooling infill technology that can reduce surface temperatures by 20 to 25 degrees, addressing safety concerns related to heat during practices.
The committee emphasized the importance of creating a safe playing environment, noting that the new turf system meets NFL standards and incorporates features to minimize injury risks. The decision to move forward with Hellas is seen as a proactive step towards enhancing the safety and quality of athletic facilities for El Campo ISD students.
As the district prepares for the installation, the focus remains on ensuring a safe and high-quality playing surface that will serve the community for years to come.
