Reno officials propose new traffic routes to Tahoe Reno Industrial Center

Funding and traffic solutions took center stage at the recent South Truckee Meadows/Washoe Valley Community Advisory Board meeting, with officials outlining plans to alleviate congestion in the region.

The discussion highlighted the need for a new alignment of Geiger Grade, aimed at redirecting traffic away from the busy intersection of Virginia Street and Mount Rose Highway. This strategic move is designed to ease the flow of vehicles, particularly for those traveling from Veterans Parkway and the summit area.

In addition to the Geiger Grade realignment, board members emphasized the importance of developing new routes to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. Two potential routes were proposed: one from La Posada Drive in Spanish Springs and another extending South Meadows Parkway over USA Parkway. These alternatives are seen as crucial, especially during adverse weather conditions or accidents that can cause significant traffic delays.

The board also discussed the necessity of a feasibility study for a commuter program between Reno, Sparks, and the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for employees who often face long delays when trying to return home, particularly when traffic is backed up.

As the community looks to address these pressing transportation issues, the focus remains on securing the necessary funding to implement these vital projects.
