Winter sports achievements took the spotlight at the Lewisburg Area School District School Board meeting on March 13, 2025, as Athletic Director Greg Wetzel celebrated the successes of various teams and athletes.
Wetzel highlighted the winter bowling teams, noting that both the boys and girls squads qualified for regionals, with the girls finishing 19th. The swim team, although small with only 12 members, showcased talent with five swimmers qualifying for the state tournament, including standout performances from Emma Hopkinson and Colin Shannon.
The boys' basketball team concluded their season with a 14-9 record, making it to the district playoffs but falling in the first round. In wrestling, Landon Wagner emerged as a regional champion and state qualifier, achieving his 100th career win and finishing eighth at the state championships. His coach, Justin Michaels, praised the team's hard work and dedication throughout the season.
The girls' basketball team also had a remarkable season, finishing with a 19-7 record and securing third place in the districts. Coach Brent expressed gratitude for the support from the administration and community, emphasizing the team's resilience and teamwork.
As the meeting wrapped up, Wetzel announced a promising start to the spring sports season, with 219 high school athletes and 92 middle school athletes participating in various sports.
