Library Foundation launches recovery funds for Palisades library wildfire victims

The Los Angeles City Council meeting on March 14, 2025, highlighted significant recovery efforts following the devastating wildfire that destroyed the Palisades Library. City officials and community leaders expressed a strong commitment to rebuilding this vital community resource, emphasizing its role as a center for connection and support.

In response to the disaster, the Library Foundation of Los Angeles swiftly established two relief funds: the Palisades Branch Recovery Fund and the LAPL Staff Emergency Fund. These initiatives aim to provide immediate assistance to both the library staff and the community affected by the fire. The Recovery Fund has already facilitated essential services, including Wi-Fi access, laptops, and community programming such as story time and arts and crafts.

To date, the fundraising efforts have garnered over $200,000 from more than 400 donors, showcasing widespread support for the recovery initiative. Library staff, many of whom lost their homes, have been actively involved in disaster recovery efforts, assisting residents in navigating FEMA and other services.

The meeting underscored the urgency of restoring the Palisades Library, with city leaders recognizing the importance of libraries as community hubs. The LA Public Library's outreach team is prepared to extend its services into the Palisades area, ensuring that the community continues to receive support during this challenging time.
