Eleanor Jean Henley honored for empowering young women through education initiatives

Delaware County, Pennsylvania, recently celebrated its 2nd Annual Black History Month Celebration, highlighting the contributions of local leaders and organizations dedicated to empowering the community. The event featured a keynote address from Miss Eleanor Jean Henley, a prominent figure in education and health, who has made significant strides in supporting young women through her nonprofit, Teen Shop Incorporated.

Henley, who founded Teen Shop in 2006, has developed a nationally recognized program that prepares adolescent girls for college and careers. Her initiatives focus on providing exposure and empowerment, with a curriculum that includes health, fitness, arts, and culture. Notably, the program boasts a remarkable 100% college acceptance rate among its participants, a testament to the effectiveness of Henley’s approach.

During her speech, Henley emphasized the importance of representation and mentorship for young women of color. She shared her personal journey as an Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist and the challenges she faced in a field where few women looked like her.
