Parks Development Manager Fengling Du presents Sugar Land Memorial Park splash pad update

The Sugar Land Memorial Park splash pad project is making waves as the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board reviews its design and development. During the March 11 meeting, Fengling Du, Parks Development Manager, highlighted the project as part of the city’s initiative to enhance community amenities and respond to resident feedback.

Du emphasized that the splash pad is one of five "quick win" projects aimed at addressing high community demand for recreational facilities. The splash pad will be strategically located in Sugar Land Memorial Park, the city’s second most visited park, which already features popular amenities like trails, playgrounds, and pavilions.

The decision to add a splash pad stems from community surveys indicating a strong desire for more outdoor activities, particularly for families. Du noted that the existing splash pad at River Park is somewhat hidden and lacks nearby restroom facilities, making the Memorial Park location a more accessible choice for families.

The design includes innovative features, such as a flow-through system that not only provides fun for children but also helps maintain the water levels in the park's lake. This dual purpose aligns with the city’s goals of enhancing outdoor spaces while ensuring sustainability.
