First Colony Little League plans international art and kite festival for March 22

The City of Sugar Land's PARCS Advisory Board meeting on March 11, 2025, highlighted several community-focused initiatives and upcoming events aimed at enhancing local engagement and recreation.

One of the most exciting announcements was the upcoming International Art and Kite Festival, scheduled for Saturday, March 22, from 10 AM to 3 PM at Crown Festival Park. This event promises a day filled with activities, including kite flying, chalk art, and various children's activities, fostering a sense of community and creativity among residents.

In addition to the festival, the board discussed the success of recent events, such as the President's Day basketball camp, which attracted 40 young participants and will be repeated in the summer. The First Colony Little League also faced challenges with weather but is looking forward to a successful season ahead.

The meeting also touched on the ongoing efforts to activate the Farmers Market, which recently hosted a Lunar New Year celebration featuring a dragon and lion dance troop. This event was well-attended and included activities for children, showcasing the market's role as a vibrant community hub.

Another highlight was the Senior Center's initiatives, including the "Share the Love" wall, where seniors can express messages of appreciation. The center also distributed flowers to 200 members on Valentine's Day, emphasizing the importance of social connections for seniors in the community.

Looking ahead, the board discussed several shade projects at local parks, which are currently in the permitting stage and expected to begin construction soon. Additionally, plans for new fitness equipment at the Imperial Park Recreation Center are underway, with selections still being finalized.
