Springville honors young women for kindness and resilience in community

During the Springville City Council meeting on December 16, 2024, three remarkable young women were honored for their outstanding contributions to their families and community. This recognition highlights the positive impact youth can have, countering the often negative narratives surrounding young people today.

The first honoree, Amelia "Millie" Fowler, an eighth grader at Springville Junior High, was nominated by her youth leader, Janessa Zier. Millie is praised for her strength and kindness, particularly in caring for her three younger siblings who face various health and learning challenges. Her involvement in local dance and theater showcases her dedication to personal growth, and her positive attitude makes her a beloved figure among peers.

Next, June Davis, a tenth grader at Springville High School, was recognized for her resilience and service. Nominated by her neighbor, Taylor, June faced significant challenges this past summer when her family's home underwent extensive repairs. Despite the upheaval, she maintained a positive outlook and continued to support her family and others in need, exemplifying selflessness and patience.

The final honoree, Katie Stultz, a ninth grader at Springville Junior High, was nominated by an anonymous source. Katie's journey has been marked by medical challenges, yet she has emerged as a symbol of perseverance. Last summer, she competed nationally with her junior high FCCLA group and has been a dedicated caregiver for her disabled uncle and recently deceased grandmother. Her cheerful demeanor and strong work ethic have made her a leader in her church's young women's volunteer group.

The council expressed gratitude for the opportunity to recognize these young women, emphasizing their roles as positive examples in the community. The meeting underscored the importance of celebrating youth who contribute positively, reminding attendees that many young people are making significant impacts despite facing personal challenges.
