Helena College launches new cosmetology program with community support

The Montana Board of Regents meeting held on March 13, 2025, at Helena College focused on new initiatives and community support for the institution. The meeting marked a significant return to in-person gatherings after two years, with Helena College serving as the host.

One of the key highlights was the introduction of Helena College's new cosmetology program, which began accepting students in January 2024. This program is designed to provide an associate of applied science degree in just 15 months, allowing graduates to enter the workforce quickly. The curriculum covers essential skills, including hair, skin, and nail services, as well as business management and health standards relevant to the industry.

The program has received substantial backing from both the local community and industry partners. Kenra Professional has contributed products and expertise, enhancing the educational experience for students. Community members have also played a vital role, serving on advisory boards and as guest lecturers, which helps students connect with potential employers.

Since the program's launch, students have performed over 5,000 services on live clients, including 1,400 haircuts and nearly 1,000 pedicures. This impressive achievement reflects the strong community engagement and support for the cosmetology program, which culminated in a successful ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.

The meeting underscored Helena College's commitment to supporting students and adapting to community needs, showcasing the institution's ongoing mission to provide quality education and workforce readiness.
