Representative Larry Scott demands better customer service from state agencies

During a recent meeting of the New Mexico Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee, a pressing issue regarding state government responsiveness was highlighted. Senator Larry Scott expressed frustration over the lack of customer service within state agencies, emphasizing that constituents often struggle to reach live representatives for assistance. He noted that many residents come to him in distress, unable to get timely responses to their inquiries.

Senator Scott shared that when he personally intervenes, problems are frequently resolved within a day or two, underscoring the need for improved communication and support for constituents. "We just can't get anybody to call us back. And that's got to change," he stated, calling for a shift towards better customer service in state government.

The discussion also touched on the importance of training for state employees. A representative from the New Mexico Environment Department, identified as Lindsey, provided insights into the training processes for new hires. While acknowledging that training varies by position, she explained that newer employees often work alongside more experienced staff to ensure they meet job expectations.
