Sun City West's Golf Committee has proposed a series of fee increases aimed at generating an additional $400,000 in revenue for the upcoming golf season. During the meeting on March 13, 2025, committee members discussed various adjustments to non-member rates and additional charges that could impact both local golfers and visitors.
Key proposals include a $3 increase in non-member green fees during peak season, which runs from November to April. This adjustment is expected to generate approximately $191,000. Additionally, a $1 increase in member rates during the same period is also on the table. The committee is also looking to raise golf cart fees, with unlimited use increasing to $3,900 and twilight rates rising to $15.50, contributing further to the revenue goal.
Another significant proposal is the introduction of a $3 trail fee for non-members who do not rent a golf cart but wish to ride along with a member. This fee is designed to encourage non-members to rent carts while still allowing them to enjoy the course at a discounted rate. The committee estimates this could generate around $90,000, as approximately half of the 30,000 rounds played by non-members involve those who do not rent carts.
The discussion around these fee increases sparked varied opinions among committee members. Some expressed concerns about the potential impact on family members visiting from out of town, while others supported the idea of charging non-members more to play. The committee acknowledged the challenges of differentiating between guests and outside players but emphasized the need for additional revenue to cover rising operational costs.
In addition to green fees and trail fees, the committee proposed increases in the prices of range balls and snacks, projecting an additional $120,000 in revenue from these changes. The price of range balls would rise from $3 to $4, while a modest increase in snack prices could yield $20,000.
As the committee moves forward with these proposals, they aim to balance the financial needs of the golf operations with the interests of the community. The next steps will involve further discussions and potential adjustments based on feedback from committee members and the broader community.
