Needles City is celebrating significant progress in its housing authority, as reported during the recent City Council meeting on October 24, 2023. The housing authority, under the leadership of housing manager Angelica Dearmer, has made remarkable strides, moving from a troubled status to nearly standard in just a few months. This achievement marks the fastest turnaround in the history of housing authorities, showcasing the dedication of the staff involved.
A key highlight of the meeting was the completion of a major project involving the replacement of windows and doors in public housing units. As of now, all 302 windows across 52 units have been successfully replaced, much to the delight of residents who expressed their satisfaction during a recent walkthrough. The project, which began with a contract awarded on April 25, is now halfway through with the door replacements, which had faced delays due to back orders. However, all necessary doors are now on hand, and completion is expected in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the city has successfully leased out all 23 Section 8 housing vouchers, further enhancing housing opportunities for residents. With 52 public housing units available, these developments signal a positive shift in the community's housing landscape.
The council's discussions underscored the importance of these advancements, not only in improving living conditions but also in fostering a sense of community pride. As the housing authority continues its efforts, residents can look forward to further improvements and a more stable housing environment in Needles City.
