A major infrastructure project in Flagler County is set to enhance connectivity and spur future development, with construction expected to wrap up by July 2025. The initiative aims to create a new road linking two state roads, bypassing Downtown Bunnell and significantly easing traffic congestion.
The project, managed by Richard Zion from the engineering department, is currently 80% complete and has a total cost of $14.4 million. Funding sources include $6.8 million from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), $4.5 million from the City of Bunnell, and $3.1 million from Flagler County's transportation impact fees. The road will extend from behind the sheriff's operations center to US 1, south of the Dollar General.

This nearly 5-mile roadway project is 75% complete and is also expected to finish by July 2025. It will improve transportation and accessibility for residents and emergency services while reducing maintenance needs for unpaved roads.
Another significant initiative discussed was the Regional Trails and Conservation Center, which will serve as a hub for ecotourism and conservation education. Located near State Road 100, this 10,000-square-foot facility aims to boost local tourism and economic growth by attracting visitors interested in outdoor activities.
These projects reflect Flagler County's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and promoting sustainable development, with anticipated benefits for both residents and the local economy.
