A shining moment for student achievement was highlighted at the MSAD6 Board of Directors meeting on March 17, 2025, as Lauren Walker received the prestigious MIAA scholarship. Awarded by the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, Walker earned a $500 scholarship for her outstanding performance in athletics and her commitment to community service. The scholarship will be disbursed after her first semester of college, and she is set to present her winning essay at an upcoming luncheon on April 2.
In addition to celebrating Walker's achievement, the meeting also focused on the district's budget process. Board members discussed the importance of community engagement in shaping the budget, emphasizing the need for open conversations about balancing educational support with financial feasibility. The final budget advisory meeting provided valuable insights, and the board is eager to continue these discussions as they prepare for the finance and facilities committee meeting on April 3.

Debbie McCarthy, a beloved third-grade teacher at Hollis Elementary, will retire at the end of the school year, leaving behind a legacy of strong relationships with her students. Nurse Terry Jewell will also retire, while Jesse Woodman will resign to pursue other professional opportunities, paving the way for a more streamlined nursing staff at Edna Libby School.
As the district navigates these transitions and prepares for the upcoming budget discussions, the focus remains on fostering a supportive educational environment while addressing the financial realities faced by the community.
