The West Fargo City Commission convened on March 17, 2025, to address several key issues impacting the community, including infrastructure improvements and budget amendments.
One of the significant discussions centered around a variance request for the Maple Ridge development. The City Commission, acting as the Board of Adjustment, approved the variance after reviewing a letter from the Southeast Cass Water Resource District. This letter recommended updating the ordinance regarding variances, but city staff confirmed that the current application met existing requirements. The approval is expected to facilitate the development of the Maple Ridge area, which is crucial for local growth.

City Engineer Dan Hanson presented options for either a traffic signal or a roundabout. After deliberation, the Commission opted for a traffic signal, which is projected to cost approximately $1.47 million. This decision aims to enhance safety and manage the anticipated increase in traffic due to nearby developments, including the Dakota Medical Foundation's new project.
The Commission also approved the Dakota Medical Foundation's petition for improvements to their site, which includes roadways and public utilities. The estimated cost for this project is $2.57 million, with expenses to be fully assessed to adjacent properties.
In addition to these discussions, the Commission addressed ongoing concrete pavement repairs across various city locations, with a budget of $1.8 million allocated for the project. This initiative includes replacing cracked pavement and ensuring pedestrian ramps comply with ADA standards.
Lastly, a budget amendment was approved for the Street Department, increasing the budget by $250,000 to correct a clerical error from the previous budget process. This amendment will support the acquisition of new vehicles and other project costs for the street crew.
These decisions reflect the Commission's commitment to improving infrastructure and addressing community needs, ensuring West Fargo continues to develop in a safe and efficient manner.
