Canby plans new industrial complex for BBC Steel expansion and utilities upgrade

The Canby Planning Commission made significant strides in advancing local development during its meeting on February 24, 2025, focusing on a new project that promises to enhance the community's economic landscape. The proposed development includes three buildings totaling 48,600 square feet, designed to accommodate manufacturing and storage operations, particularly for BBC Steel, a local business poised for expansion.

Key highlights from the meeting included the confirmation that the project meets the Canby Municipal Code's landscaping requirements, boasting over 19% green space, surpassing the mandated 15%. The development will also ensure that all utilities, including power, water, sewer, and gas, are effectively managed within an existing 30-foot utility easement, with plans to widen or relocate utilities as necessary.

The buildings are designed with functionality in mind. The Planning Commission also discussed the operational dynamics of the buildings, clarifying that both Buildings 2 and 3 will serve dual purposes of manufacturing and storage, with a balanced allocation of space for each function.
