Local volunteers enhance community safety with traffic control and home checks

The Redondo Beach Public Safety Commission highlighted the vital role of community volunteers in enhancing local safety during their March 17 meeting. Volunteers are actively involved in various public safety efforts, including managing traffic at races, conducting DUI checkpoints, and assisting in emergency situations.

Commission members emphasized that these volunteers provide essential support without placing themselves in significant danger. Their contributions extend to critical situations, such as aiding in searches for missing persons, including lost children and vulnerable adults.

The commission noted that while the minimum commitment for volunteers is four hours a week, many exceed this expectation, showcasing their dedication to community service. Additionally, volunteers engage in customer service-oriented tasks, such as conducting vacation checks to ensure homes are secure while residents are away.
