Cotati City Council outlines comprehensive improvement plans for parks and infrastructure

The Cotati Planning Commission has outlined a comprehensive strategy to enhance the city’s infrastructure and public services during its meeting on March 17, 2025. Key discussions focused on the development of an Active Transportation Plan aimed at improving bike and pedestrian safety throughout the city. This initiative will identify critical areas for sidewalk gap closures and the creation of Class 1 pathways, ultimately leading to a prioritized list of projects for the city’s capital improvement plan.

Among the notable projects discussed, the implementation of a Trash Implementation Plan was highlighted, which aims to address litter in downtown Cotati by installing trash capture devices in stormwater pipelines. This project is part of a broader effort to protect local waterways from pollution.

The Building Department also presented two significant projects: the reroofing of the police building, which has suffered from leaks due to its aging infrastructure, and improvements to the Civic Center parking lot. These enhancements are designed to optimize parking space and address sidewalk issues caused by tree roots.

The Parks Department reported on six projects aimed at maintaining and expanding the city’s recreational facilities. Recent improvements at Cotati Park have demonstrated the positive impact of such upgrades on community quality of life. Projects include enhancements to Civic Center Park, resurfacing of the Cater Basketball Court, and the La Plaza Reunification, with some designs already 65% complete.
