Cleveland Heights Council discusses comprehensive equitable safety action plan

The Cleveland Heights Public Safety and Health Committee convened on March 18, 2025, to discuss the Cleveland Heights Comprehensive Equitable Safety Action Plan (CESAP). The meeting, led by Chair Jim Posch and attended by committee members, focused on the importance of this initiative aimed at enhancing roadway safety for all users.

Director Zemp and consultant Ken presented the CESAP, highlighting its foundation in the Safe Streets for All program, established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021. The city received a $200,000 grant in February 2022 to develop a comprehensive strategy to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries. This plan is particularly significant as it emphasizes equity, ensuring that safety measures address the needs of all community members.

The CESAP includes a thorough safety analysis, public engagement efforts, and considerations for equity throughout its development. The plan outlines proposed policy and process changes, project selections, and emphasizes transparency in its implementation. Additionally, it contains extensive appendices with detailed information, charts, and tables to support its findings and recommendations.
