Chaska City Council approves EDCO concept plan for new industrial facility

The Chaska City Council convened on March 17, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, including community initiatives and a significant industrial development proposal.

The meeting began with a presentation from a local organization, Fishing and Friends, which serves the Southwestern Metro Area. Council members expressed gratitude for the organization's contributions to the community, leading to a motion to approve a letter of intent with them. The motion was unanimously passed, highlighting the council's support for local volunteer efforts.

Following this, the council turned its attention to a more substantial matter: the concept plan for EDCO, a metal fabrication company looking to establish a new facility in Chaska. The proposed site is located off Creek Road, adjacent to existing industrial buildings. The plan, presented by representatives from Pope Design Group, outlines a 240,000 square foot building with a height of 38 feet, along with a potential future expansion of up to 20,000 square feet.

The council reviewed the site’s zoning, which is currently designated as rural residential, and noted that the area is primarily farmland with known wetlands. The development is expected to create approximately 55 jobs and includes plans for an 85-stall parking lot. The council emphasized the importance of addressing concerns raised during a neighborhood meeting, particularly regarding water usage, wastewater management, and truck traffic.

Key discussions included the need for adequate screening to mitigate the impact on nearby residential properties and the importance of pedestrian pathways for employee safety. The council also highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive stormwater management plan and wetland mitigation strategies as the project progresses.

After thorough deliberation, the council voted to adopt Resolution Number 2025-21, approving the concept plan for EDCO, contingent upon addressing the outlined conditions. This decision marks a significant step forward in the development of Chaska's industrial park, aligning with the city’s long-term business park planning goals.
