Pelham Schools Celebrate Student Achievements in Competitions and Academics

The Pelham City Schools Board convened on March 17, 2025, for their regularly scheduled meeting, led by President Ford and Vice President Robert Plummer. The agenda included the approval of previous meeting minutes and financial statements, which were unanimously approved without any questions or concerns.

Following the administrative items, Communication Director Nicola Knight presented a series of student achievements and events that highlighted the accomplishments within the district. Notably, Pelham Ridge and Pelham Park Middle School participated in the engaging elementary engineers (e3) competition, where Pelham Ridge secured a second-place finish in one of the challenges.

At Pelham High School, the television production class excelled at the Alabama Scholastic Press Association state convention, earning multiple awards across various categories, including broadcast news and sports reporting. Their broadcast teams also qualified for the state competition in Mobile.

In culinary arts, the Pelham High School culinary team triumphed at the Alabama ProStart Invitational, winning first place and qualifying for the national competition in Baltimore. Additionally, students from both Pelham Park Middle School and Pelham High School performed well in the Shelby County Cook Off, with several students earning top placements in various categories.

The meeting also highlighted extracurricular activities, including the Miss PHS pageant, where senior Dayonna McGee was crowned Miss PHS, and Robert Flores was named Mr. PHS. Two students were selected for the Capstone Leadership Academy, enhancing their leadership skills through a program at the University of Alabama.

Athletic achievements were also celebrated, with Emily Wester qualifying for the New Balance Nationals indoor meet, and junior T Martin being named to the first team all-state in girls basketball. The Pelham Park Middle School band and choir received excellent and superior ratings, respectively, at their recent performances.

The meeting concluded with a recognition of visual arts achievements, where students Anthony Flores and Anaya Chapique received awards in the visual arts achievement program. The board expressed pride in the students' accomplishments and the ongoing commitment to fostering excellence in Pelham City Schools.
