Atlas North Solar Project seeks CUP approval from La Paz County Board

The La Paz County Board of Supervisors held a regular meeting on March 3, 2025, where the primary focus was the proposed Atlas North Solar Project. The project aims to establish a solar energy facility that will include various solar generation equipment, a project substation, and a battery energy storage system. The preliminary site design was presented, outlining the layout of solar panels and the connection to the local grid through the recently completed Cielo Azul switchyard.

The project is seeking a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) in accordance with La Paz County zoning regulations. Proponents of the project emphasized that it would not generate emissions or significant traffic, and they believe it meets all necessary conditions for approval. The construction phase is expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026, with local hiring anticipated to boost the economy during this period.

Community Development staff reported that all required notices were posted on time and that no complaints or concerns had been raised regarding the project. The Board of Supervisors had previously approved the project unanimously during a planning and zoning hearing.
