UTA expands on-demand transit service for West Side students and families

Residents of Salt Lake City will soon experience enhanced public transportation options thanks to a recent partnership between the city and the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). During the Salt Lake City School District Board meeting on March 18, 2025, officials highlighted the success of the on-demand transit service, which aims to better serve the West Side of the city.

The on-demand service allows residents living west of 300 West and between 2100 South and 17 North to request pickups via an app. This service is particularly beneficial for those in areas with limited access to regular bus routes. Users can call for a ride to nearby stops, making it easier for them to reach their destinations.

A significant improvement discussed during the meeting was the addition of a new bus route that will now take students directly to Northwest Middle School. Previously, students from the Rose Park area had to walk long distances from the nearest bus stop to their school. This change, which will be implemented in April, comes in response to community feedback and aims to ensure safer access for students.

In addition to the new bus route, the city is also working on installing sidewalks to improve safety for students traveling to school. These developments reflect the city's commitment to addressing the needs of its residents, particularly families and students who rely on public transportation.
