Santa Ana High School wrestling teams celebrated for championship victories

The Santa Ana City Council meeting on March 18, 2025, celebrated the remarkable achievements of local high school athletes, highlighting the Santa Ana High School wrestling teams and the Santiago High School boys basketball team.

Mayor of Santa Ana opened the meeting by recognizing the Santa Ana High School girls wrestling team, who have had an outstanding season. The team not only became league champions but also secured the title of CIF dual meet champions and finished fourth in the CIF Southern Section Masters. Their impressive performance culminated in a fourteenth-place finish at the CIF State Championships. The mayor praised the athletes for their skill, determination, and teamwork, emphasizing the importance of their achievements for the community. The girls' coach expressed gratitude for the support from the city and highlighted that six of their wrestlers will represent Santa Ana at the high school national championships in Virginia Beach.

Following the girls, the boys wrestling team was also recognized for their accomplishments, including winning the CIF dual meet championship, marking the first title since 2010. The team finished fifth at the CIF individuals tournament, with several wrestlers qualifying for the prestigious CIF Masters meet. The mayor commended the boys for their dedication and hard work, encouraging them to continue their wrestling careers and give back to the community.

The meeting also honored the Santiago High School boys basketball team, who won their first CIF Southern Section Championship. Coach Matt Morehouse, a proud alumnus of Santiago, expressed his gratitude for the support from the community and the dedication of his players.

In addition to the athletic achievements, the council recognized Stanford Sound and Stage, a local business that has significantly contributed to the community by supporting local artists and providing educational opportunities for aspiring sound engineers and DJs.
