Punta Gorda honors Moose Lodge and community volunteers for exceptional service

During the Regular City Council Meeting held on March 19, 2025, in Punta Gorda, Florida, significant recognition was given to local organizations and individuals for their contributions to the community, particularly in support of veterans and disaster recovery efforts.

A key highlight of the meeting was the proclamation declaring March 16, 2025, as "Loyal Order of the Moose Appreciation Day." This recognition celebrated the Moose Lodge's longstanding commitment to community service and support for veterans, who represent a substantial portion of Charlotte County's population. The proclamation acknowledged the Moose's contributions to the William R. Gaines Junior Veterans Memorial Park, which honors first responders and veterans. The council expressed gratitude for the Moose Lodge's efforts, particularly in fundraising, which recently raised over $14,000 for the park.

The meeting also featured the presentation of two Mayor's Ambassador Awards. The first award was given to Joe Saladino of Prop Towing for his exceptional service during the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Saladino coordinated cleanup efforts across the city, providing equipment and manpower to remove debris and restore public spaces without charging the city. His actions exemplified community spirit and the willingness to help neighbors in need.

The second award honored Cecilia Turin, a dedicated community volunteer recognized for her extensive involvement in various local organizations, including Meals on Wheels and the Military Heritage Museum. For over 42 years, Turin has contributed to the Cobblestone event and supported local businesses, showcasing her commitment to enhancing the community's quality of life.
