District Announces New Student Support Teams for High School Transition

The Fayetteville School District is set to enhance its educational offerings with the introduction of new choice programming and support initiatives aimed at improving student experiences and outcomes. During the FPS Regular Board Meeting on March 19, 2025, key updates were shared regarding middle and junior high school choice programs, as well as a new initiative focused on student support teams.

The meeting highlighted the successful completion of the lottery process for middle school choice programs, with 112 slots available across various schools. Acceptance letters were sent out on March 14, and the enthusiasm among students was palpable, as they engaged in hands-on learning experiences. The district is also planning professional development opportunities for teachers to ensure a smooth transition into the next academic year.

In the junior high sector, 103 students applied for choice programs at Ramey and Woodland schools, with all applicants receiving spots. The scheduling process is currently underway, with cap nights scheduled for April 8 and 10, where families will finalize their choices. The integration of students into regular classes, along with specialized courses and clubs, aims to provide a well-rounded educational experience.

A significant new initiative discussed was the establishment of student support teams, designed to foster long-term relationships between students and staff throughout their high school years. Each student will be assigned a consistent team comprising an assistant principal, a counselor, and a newly created post-secondary advisor. This team will guide students in planning their futures, whether that involves college, military service, or entering the workforce. The program is set to launch in the 2025-2026 school year, emphasizing a personalized approach to student support.
