Paulding County's community development report for 2024 reveals a robust year in building permits and business licenses, signaling a thriving local economy. During a recent Board of Commissioners work session, officials highlighted that the county issued 5,972 building permits, just shy of the previous year's total of 6,001.
The breakdown of permits shows a strong focus on trade permits, which accounted for 84% of the total. Notably, 33% were Certificates of Occupancy (COs), marking the completion of projects, while single-family detached dwellings made up 22%. Inspectors conducted nearly 11,000 inspections, reflecting the ongoing construction activity.
Significantly, nonresidential projects contributed $75 million in value, with highlights including over $30 million in permits for Wellesaw Paulding Hospital and $8 million for the Town Creek Center commercial development. Residential projects also thrived, with Post 4 leading the way in permits issued.
In terms of business growth, the county reported 4,030 active business licenses, with a notable increase in commercial licenses from 105 in 2023 to 222 in 2024. The professional, scientific, and technical sectors emerged as the top contributors to new commercial licenses, indicating a shift towards more diverse business activities.
Overall, the report underscores a positive trajectory for Paulding County's development landscape, with officials optimistic about continued growth and community engagement in future projects.
