Planning begins for new buildings at Scotts Hill and Lexington High School

In a recent special called meeting of the Henderson County Schools Board, discussions centered around the planning of new school buildings, highlighting both excitement and caution as board members navigated the complexities of site selection.

As the meeting unfolded, one board member emphasized the need for careful consideration before finalizing locations for the proposed buildings. “I don’t know that we’re actually ready to cement those spots,” they remarked, suggesting that the current discussions were more about moving forward with planning rather than making definitive decisions. The tentative site for one of the buildings is projected to be on the Scotts Hill property, while another potential location near the tennis courts at Lexington High School was also mentioned as a favorable option.

The board is aiming for both buildings to be similar in size, with plans to create a smaller version of the existing baseball building at Scott Teal. Preliminary groundwork has already been laid with engineers and architects, indicating that the project is progressing, albeit with flexibility regarding the final dimensions. The current building at Scotts Hill is designed to be 84 by 40 feet, but adjustments may be necessary depending on the chosen location, with possibilities of resizing to 60 by 40 or 60 by 50 feet.

As the board continues to explore these options, the focus remains on ensuring that the new facilities meet the needs of the community while being cost-effective. The discussions reflect a commitment to thoughtful planning, balancing ambition with practicality as Henderson County Schools looks to enhance its educational infrastructure.
