Officer Hat retires after 33 years of service in Campton Hills

The Village Board of Campton Hills held its meeting on March 18, 2025, where several key topics were discussed, including staff reports from the Police Department and updates on recent severe weather events.

Chief Levand began the meeting by recognizing Officer Hat, who officially submitted his resignation on March 12 after a commendable 33-year career in law enforcement, serving in both Streamwood and Campton Hills. Officer Hat was noted for his significant contributions to community programs, such as the Citizen Police Academy and the "2 Good for Drugs" initiative, which is taught at local schools. The Chief expressed gratitude for Officer Hat's service and wished him a happy and healthy retirement.

The meeting then shifted focus to the recent severe weather outbreak that occurred on the preceding Friday evening. Chief Levand reported that tornadoes were spotted in the area, specifically in DeKalb County near Beetham County Line Road in Maple Park. In response to the severe weather, the village activated its tornado siren around 11:45 PM to alert residents. Fortunately, Campton Hills experienced no major damage, although there were reports of downed trees and power lines. Approximately 108 residents lost power, but ComEd responded swiftly to restore electricity. The Chief noted that neighboring areas, particularly Hampshire and Elgin, faced more significant impacts from the storm, including 65-mile-per-hour straight-line winds.
