West Covina is set to enhance its cultural landscape with the introduction of a new Performing Arts Academy at West Covina High School, as announced during the City Council meeting on March 18, 2025. The initiative, led by Superintendent Amy Flores and presented by Mr. Wigleworth, aims to provide students with a comprehensive education in the performing arts, including dance, music, theater, and technical production.
The academy is designed to offer a college-like experience, allowing students to specialize in their chosen field while also gaining exposure to other disciplines. This approach ensures that students are well-rounded and prepared for future opportunities in the performing arts industry or higher education. Notably, students will receive free private lessons from industry professionals, participate in exclusive workshops, and benefit from individualized academic plans tailored to their needs.
