LA County Library begins ADA improvements at Hermosa Beach facility

Construction has officially begun on ADA improvements at the Hermosa Beach Library, with work starting earlier this week. Funded by a grant, the renovations will update restrooms to meet current accessibility standards and enhance automated doors on both the north and south sides of the building. The library plans to remain open during the construction, although there may be a brief shutdown for water issues, expected to last only one or two days if necessary. Updates will be provided to the public throughout the process.

Parking impacts are minimal, affecting only one or two spaces in the City Hall parking lot designated for library use. Temporary restroom facilities have been set up on the south side of the building, where bike racks were previously located.

In addition to the library updates, officials are addressing a serious public health concern regarding domoic acid toxicity in the water, which has led to sea lions washing up on the beach. Residents are advised to avoid approaching any stranded animals and to report sightings to the Marine Mammal Care Center at the provided hotline. This precaution is crucial for both public safety and the well-being of the affected wildlife.
