Despite technical difficulties during the Apple meeting on March 13, the committee plans to continue discussions on the new Individualized Education Program (IEP) and collaborate with CPAC for the 2025-2026 school year. Additionally, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has awarded Duxbury $10,000 for special education program improvement, which will support professional development and materials related to the new IEP.
Community engagement was another significant focus, with the first friendship group meeting held at the library, attracting around 12 students and parents. The group aims to promote healthy habits and friendship through various activities, with additional sessions planned for April. The Duxbury Bay Maritime School is also collaborating with the friendship group to enhance programming, including an inclusion rowing initiative.
The meeting concluded with reflections on the importance of community involvement in school affairs. Committee members expressed hope for improved engagement and behavior within the committee, emphasizing the need for parents and community members to remain active and supportive as the school year progresses.
Looking ahead, the Chandler School is preparing for its 40th annual science fair on March 29, with 60 students participating. Parent-teacher conferences are also scheduled for the upcoming week, providing an opportunity for families to discuss student progress. Dexter Middle School recently hosted a successful student versus staff basketball game, raising funds for victims of the LA fires, showcasing the school’s commitment to community service and student engagement.
