Luciana Vega joins Austin's forensic science department as latent print specialist

Among them was Luciana Vega, who began her journey in November 2024, stepping into the latent print section with a Bachelor’s degree in forensic science from Saint Edwards University. Her path to this pivotal role was unique; she initially worked as a body removal specialist for a mortuary service before transitioning to an evidence control specialist in Austin in 2023. Her diverse background and skill set promise to enhance the capabilities of her new team.

Tyler Bilic Knapp, the latent print forensic supervisor, expressed enthusiasm about Luciana's addition, highlighting her knowledge and skills as vital assets to the department. The ceremony also celebrated Heidi Witte, whose extensive experience and leadership qualities were recognized as instrumental in guiding the team toward innovation and growth.

The spotlight also shone on Dr. Wang Ming Zhu, a key member of the forensic toxicology team. Daniel Sanders, the toxicology supervisor, praised her hard work and insightful contributions, noting her role as the new technical lead.
