The Peachtree City Council convened on November 21, 2024, to discuss several key agenda items, prominently featuring the proposed development of an Ace Pickleball facility. The meeting highlighted the potential economic and community benefits of this project, which aims to occupy a significant portion of a currently vacant building located at the intersection of South Peachtree Parkway and Crosstown Drive.
The Ace Pickleball facility is set to utilize approximately 40,000 square feet of the existing structure, which has been unoccupied for an extended period. The plan includes the installation of 13 indoor courts, with the remaining space designated for general retail use. This development is expected to revitalize the area, generating new tax revenue for Peachtree City, which has not seen any income from the vacant property.
During the meeting, traffic implications were also addressed. A traffic study indicated that the pickleball facility would not significantly impact local traffic patterns. In fact, it was noted that if the building were to be converted to regular retail use, it could generate five times the traffic compared to the proposed pickleball operation.
Madison Walls, representing the Ace Pickleball corporate team, provided insights into the company’s vision, which emphasizes community engagement and the creation of a welcoming environment for pickleball enthusiasts. The concept originated in 2020, and the company aims to establish 15 clubs nationwide by the end of the year, with 25 locations currently operational.
The presentation included testimonials about the sport's growing popularity and its appeal as a social and recreational activity. The Ace Pickleball facility is designed to be a climate-controlled space that fosters community interaction, offering amenities such as equipment rentals, refreshments, and event spaces.
The council's discussions underscored the potential for the Ace Pickleball project to enhance local recreation options while contributing positively to the city's economy. As the meeting concluded, the council expressed support for the initiative, marking a significant step toward revitalizing the vacant property and enriching the community's recreational landscape.
