In a recent meeting of the Citrus County Special Library District Advisory Board, the spotlight shone on the Partnership Fund, a vital financial resource for local libraries. The discussion, led by representatives from the U.S. Family Foundation, unveiled the fund's origins, its current status, and its significant impact on the community.
The Partnership Fund, formally known as the Foundation for the Citrus County Special Library District Partnership Fund, was established in 2001 with the aim of supporting library initiatives through community fundraising efforts. The U.S. Family Foundation, a public charity based in Florida, has played a crucial role in managing and growing this fund. With approximately $28 million in invested assets, the foundation has distributed over $1.5 million to various charities nationwide in the past year alone, with nearly $700,000 allocated to Citrus County.
A key highlight of the meeting was the acknowledgment of the late Admiral Renfro, whose foundation contributed significantly to the Partnership Fund. In 2023, the library received $57,000 from this fund, with $50,000 coming directly from Renfro's legacy. This financial support has enabled the library to undertake essential improvements, such as the $300,000 allocated for renovations at the Inverness Library.
The Partnership Fund's growth has been sustained through three primary sources: the annual Love Your Library event, donations from foundations established by local benefactors, and professional management of investments by Edward Jones Trust Company. While the Love Your Library event has not occurred in recent years, the foundations of Renfro and others have stepped in to provide ongoing support.
As the meeting concluded, board members expressed gratitude for the partnership with the U.S. Family Foundation, recognizing its pivotal role in ensuring the library's financial health and ability to respond to community needs. With over $530,000 currently in the fund, the future looks promising for Citrus County libraries, as they continue to benefit from the enduring legacies of their supporters.
