St Lucie County approves mining permit with environmental conditions

Vulcan Materials Company is seeking approval for a mining permit in St. Lucie County, emphasizing its commitment to community engagement and economic support. The company, represented by Community and Government Affairs Manager ****** Jackson, highlighted its role in providing stable employment and economic benefits across Florida, with 26 facilities and over 400 employees statewide. Jackson noted the Fort Pierce Quarry's partnerships with local organizations, including the Port Saint Lucie Police Athletic League and the St. Lucie County 4-H, showcasing their commitment to community service and education.

Commissioner Lee raised concerns about the impact of hauling operations on school bus routes, specifically referencing Glades Cutoff Road. Jackson assured the commission that safety protocols are in place, similar to those established with previous projects.

The quarry is positioned as a vital local source of aggregate material, crucial for infrastructure development in a state facing shortages.
